Our big pre-match interview as the side go head to head after both progressing to Res KOC Final.
This week we have spoken to both Peterborough Northern Star Res and Yaxley Res as they both go head to head after progressing to the Reserve KOC Final against each other. Both teams sit 9 points behind top of the table Newport Pagnell Town in 7th and 6th Respectively.
We spoke to PNS Manager David Kilby and Yaxley Manager Lloyd Burton.
UCL: A home tie against your Reserve KOC Final opponents, how will tomorrow's game help you prepare for the final?
David:Well we won't be playing a full-strength side now that we are into the final, this gives us a chance to look at some younger players. We are also reluctant to show any of our hidden secret's ahead of the final. Last time's fixture was a heated exchange so we're after a nice and composed performance from our lads and hopefully Yaxley are after the same.
Lloyd: It will put us in good stead for the final, we know alot of the players and management anyway and alot of the lads know each other as well, but it will give us a chance to see how they'll set up and if they have any hidden diamond's that we don't know about. With it being a big local derby, it also gives us a chance for our Youth player's to experience a local derby before the final. Ultimately though we're aiming to keep our confidence up.
UCL:After a two-nil victory to Yaxley earlier in the season, how have things changed since that game for you both?
David: We've managed to get more consistency and honesty out of our players following a change in management. We've been able to have a great 16 man-squad available most week's which has allowed us to develop the form we have.
Lloyd: We've introduced another U18 from our Youth setup which is now our fourth player to do come through this season, who hasn't at all looked out of depth so far this season. We've tweaked our formation slightly to adapt with our passing style. Our lads have learnt alot though and are learning game by game.
UCL: What are you expecting from your oppenent in the fixture tomorrow?
David: We're expecting Yaxley to come at us tomorrow to put a point down for the final.
Lloyd: We're expecting them to be out to prove a point following the earlier fixture. As already mentioned, the lads know each other and with it being a local derby we always want to win them. We've got a few injuries and illness' following our game at Rothwell on Wednesday night however.
UCL: You are both currently nine points behind top spot Newport Pagnell, what are your aims for the second half of the season, other than winning the KOC Final?
David: Don't get me wrong, I want to win and love winning, however we're aiming to progress as many players into the first team as possible for next season. Anything is possible though, if we continue our form and go on a 15 match upbeaten run, top spot is a possibility, however realistically, we're after a top 5 finish.
Lloyd: We're out to finish in the top 5 this season and want to continue our run that we've had for the last 5 games.
UCL:How have Yaxley found their first season in the Reserve Division?
Lloyd: The board and first-team management have been fantastic supporting us from the start. With the added responsibility of post-match hospitality, everyone has helped including the parent's who have taken time out to assist us where possible. Hat's off to everyone for the contribution. A big thank you must also go to Phil Watson and Paul Wood for their support in the dugout this season.
